I. TikTok Shop Accelerates Expansion in Malaysia
According to DHL’s 2026 Global E-commerce Trends Report, TikTok Shop’s penetration rate stands at 95% in Malaysia and 93% in Thailand, far surpassing that of Facebook and Instagram.
A recent Ipsos survey confirms this trend: TikTok Shop’s adoption rate among online shoppers in Malaysia jumped from 43% in 2024 to 62% in 2026—a 19% increase over two years—continuing to narrow the gap with Shopee. TikTok Shop’s growth is particularly pronounced among the 25- to 44-year-old demographic, indicating that it has expanded from a platform popular with younger audiences to a mainstream shopping channel catering to all age groups.
II. Shopee Announces Upgrade to Business Protection Program
Shopee Malaysia announced an upgrade to its “Shopee Lindung Niaga (Business Protection)” program, introducing a new round of seller support measures. Key upgrades include: new sellers are eligible for a 60-day waiver of platform support fees; the order limit before commission payments begin has been raised from 100 to 200 orders; and the promotion lasts for up to 120 days. These changes will lower the barrier to entry for new sellers.

III. Lazada Joins Meta’s Affiliate Marketing Program
In July, Lazada announced its participation in Meta’s affiliate marketing program. Content creators in six countries—Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines—can now directly link to Lazada products in their Facebook posts. Users can complete purchases with a single click, and creators earn commissions once a purchase is finalized.
Lazada stated that by deeply integrating its affiliate marketing system with the content users browse daily, it will further streamline the consumer journey from “content discovery—product discovery—purchase completion.” For merchants, opening up their product catalogs to creators means gaining new channels for exposure and conversions.
